In this paper, the performance of voltage-sourceconverter-based shunt and series compensators used for loadvoltage control in electrical power distribution systems has beenanalyzed and compared, when a nonlinear load is connectedacross the load bus. The comparison has been made based onthe closed-loop frequency response characteristics of the compensateddistribution system. A distribution static compensator(DSTATCOM) as a shunt device and a dynamic voltage restorer(DVR) as a series device are considered in the voltage-controlmode for the comparison.
